Trans-resveratrol appears to be the primary active form. Resveratrol is primarily found in red wine, red grape skins, purple grape juice, mulberries and in smaller amounts in peanuts. Research in subjects on a high-calorie diet shows that resveratrol can increase lifespan and improve other factors associated with a longer lifespan.

 

Laboratory research sugests that the anti-ageing effects of resveratrol may be partly due to the activation of enzymes involved in slowing the pace of aging. This enzyme activation may be similar to the anti-aging effects of caloric restriction.
